Epitera To Unveil New Linux Desktop Environment At COMDEX
Remote-access customer support and flashy desktop assistant highlight new entry

GIVATAIM, Israel - November 9, 2000 - Epitera today confirmed it will launch a new Linux desktop environment at COMDEX Las Vegas 2000 aimed at mainstream consumer and corporate PC users.

The most visible example of the desktop’s user-friendly approach is an animated intelligent assistant named Kandu – which the company says will provide the user with more intuitive and proactive support than the assistant found on other operating systems.

The new Epitera desktop also will allow customer support to remotely access a customer's computer to assist with problem diagnosis and resolution.

“Basically, we're taking away one of the major obstacles to widespread adoption of Linux,” said Yoram Salinger, CEO of Epitera. “Quick and efficient customer support. Furthermore, we have devised a method that allows for automatic download and installation of new applications.”

The Israel-based company plans to capitalize on the growing PC market in the US and worldwide coupled with a strong consumer and business awareness of the stability and reliability of the Linux operating system.

Epitera recently announced a partnership agreement with Vista Source, a wholly owned subsidiary of Applix, Inc. (NASDAQ: APLX). In a letter of understanding, the two companies agreed to run Vista Source’s Applixware for Linux 5.0 and AnyWareOfficeÔ on the Epitera desktop. AnyWareOffice includes a word processor, spreadsheet, presentation and graphic tools, email client, database client and development tool-set for custom applications. This server-centric suite is easily scalable from one user to a corporate-wide deployment to thousands of users.

In addition to Applixware’s office suites, the Epitera desktop will include personal productivity tools, multimedia players and viewers, communication tools, security, and general utilities such as compression, diagnostic, backup and fax.

To view a demonstration of the new desktop environment or conduct an interview, visit Epitera’s booth #P565 at the Sands Convention Center during COMDEX Fall 2000, November 13-17.
